Max Liebermann



Max Liebermann was born in Berlin, Germany in 1847 and died in 1935. He was part of the German Impressionism movement and some of his greatest influences were Courbet and Millet. Max Liebermann’s early training was in Weimar Germany and continued in Amsterdam and Paris. When abroad he was influenced by the Barbizon School and after returning to Germany he established himself as a leading Impressionist. He is known for his scenes of the elderly, peasants, and outdoor cafes. Max Liebermann contributed to the establishment of the Berlin Secession in 1899.
